I'd forgotten how much I love teaching. Thanks to my friends at the Clinton Book Shop, I was able to indulge in a class on one of my favorite topics, Candle Magic.
If you grab a copy of Llewellyn's latest Magical Almanac, you'll find lots of wonderful essays on various magical topics, including one written by me, The Blessed Bee. Bees and I didn't start out on the most positive note. I think I was about 12 when I was stung in the face. My guess is that it was probably a mud wasp, not a honey bee that did me in, but it was a long time before I was willing to get to know these little creatures a bit better, and when I did, WOW.
At the workshop we talked about some of the marvelous and amazing things that bees can do, and how those practical qualities carry over into the spiritual realm; how the bee's nature can help with magical work. Then we made intention candles using beeswax sheets. We talked about how candle magic works, and how crafting your own candle can make your intention--and the ability to make that intention come to pass--even more powerful. How using tools such as colors and crystals and oils and herbs can strengthen your magical workings--such fun!
