April A to Z Challenge A is for...

Altar!

A is for Altar, that sacred space created for devotion, gratitude, petition and celebration--to name a few purposes. Altars are as individual as the folks who create them. They can be simple or elaborate and built of the humblest or richest materials depending on your traditions and resources and taste. The most important element, as in all magical work, is the intent and love behind the construction. An altar of one object placed with sincerity and devotion can have a much power as a complex creation that is the work of many hands. Each time you look at your altar, you should be reminded of why you built it, its imagery reawakening your mind to the magic to which you've devoted your energy.

The altar in this picture celebrates the Autumnal Equinox and is laden with symbols of the harvest including a corn maiden, the embodiment of the spirit of the fields. CLICK HERE for a PDF file to print out. Color it now, or at the Autumnal Equinox and use it as inspiration to build an altar now: What or whom do you wish to honor, celebrate? For what are you most grateful?

This coloring page was created by Robin Ator. Please be sure to check out Robin's website and his crazy cool Tarot decks!

  1. The intent and love is really important. Then even a simple wooden desk can be turned into an altar.
